The Hyatt Honors
Legacy Award
The Hyatt Honors is dedicated annually to a community member or partner who has helped Blue Skies for Children successfully serve children in Whatcom or Skagit Counties and who exemplifies our mission of "raising hope and self-esteem in young hearts and minds" and has been instrumental in the organization's success in the previous year.
It honors the legacy of Gladys Hyatt, a long-time volunteer and board member who left a legacy of dedicated time and service to Blue Skies for Children.

2026 Honoree
Dewey Griffin Subaru

We are honored to recognize Dewey Griffin Subaru for their outstanding commitment to our community. Dewey Griffin has been a part of the Blue Skies family for over 15 years.
Dick Meyer, the late owner of Dewey Griffin Subaru, would often share his philosophy that if everyone gave a little, we would all have a lot. This philosophy has been the cornerstone of Dewey Griffin's business ever since.
Over the years, they have participated in every facet of our work from sponsoring our events, to holding drives for coats and shoes, to providing volunteers to help at events, and even paying for valuable radio time so we can share information about our programs and events! They have also been honored by Subaru of America for their dedication to using the principles of HEART: Honesty, Empathy, Appreciation, Respect, and Trust.
2025 Honoree
Sunrise Rotary

We are thrilled to announce Sunrise Rotary of Bellingham as our 2025 Hyatt Honors honoree! Through their incredible generosity and commitment to giving back, Sunrise Rotary raised over $60,000 for Blue Skies for Children during their annual Oysterfest gala, an event dedicated to supporting local charities.
This remarkable donation allowed us to navigate a challenging year that included an unexpected office relocation while achieving a significant milestone—growing our enrichment programs by over 41%. Thanks to Sunrise Rotary’s support, we were able to serve more than 130 children, providing them with meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
We are deeply grateful for their unwavering dedication to making a difference in our community. Sunrise Rotary’s impact is truly inspiring, and we are proud to honor them for their outstanding contributions!
2024 Honoree
Kathe Koruga

Kathe Koruga is our first awardee of the Hyatt Honors!
She worked at the Bellingham School District for over 25 years, the last 10 years as a Multilingual Language Family Advocate & Family Liaison. In this role, Kathe has worked tirelessly with Blue Skies for Children to ensure that every child has what they need to be comfortable, confident, and engaged in school.
Kathe has been a great partner in helping Blue Skies for Children understand the needs in our community and identifying and breaking down barriers to providing essential needs and enriching experiences that can positively impact a child who needs support.
