Tell me something about yourself

lSomething interesting about me is that I love the sport of football!  Not American footbal (which I do like) but international football (soccer). I truly enjoy the dynamics of the sport and tried out for the Sounders team.

What interested and motivated you to join the BSFC board

I was introduced to Blue Skies through my girlfriend Cecelia who is currently on the board. I had been assisting in some volunteer work and then found out that there was an opportunity to help even more by joining the board. BSFC helps so many children in Whatcom County and to have the honor to participate and impact our community motivated me to commit additional time and become a board member.

What goals do you have as a board member? 

My goals on the board are to increase our charity's exposure out in the community, to inform people about the great work we do in the community, and to attract more people to it.

What motivates you in life?

What motivates me in life is the ability to spend time with my family, travel and playing soccer.  These items bring tremendous joy to my life.

Sum up your experience and involvement in the non-profit world

BSFC is my first experience and involvement in a non-profit. This organization has given me the ability to see first hand the benefits non-profits provide our community on a daily basis. I am very thankful that BSFC has given me this opportunity to participate in making a difference in Whatcom County.

Describe your professional career

I worked for six years as an office manager of our family owned Transportation company, and am owner of a coffee  service  business. This provided me a professional base to enable me to move to a new career in insurance last year. I am now a licensed Property & Casualty Insurance agent with the Nancy Leavitt Agency of American Family Mutual Insurance. This new career both inspires and challenges me to grow personally and professionally.

Describe your hobbies and interests.

I enjoy playing soccer. I have been playing with 2 teams for the past 15 years during summer, fall and winter. I have always been interested in traveling and this year I finally took the plunge. I have been to Cancun, New York, Whistler, Oregon and several other weekend adventures. I am really excited to be traveling to Australia and New Zealand in August.

Anything else you would like to share?

I would like to share with everyone that being involved in a non-profit brings happiness to your life in many ways I never knew. The joy of hearing about a child being able to attend a camp or take driver’s education, when they would not have had the chance without BSFC just lights up your soul. BSFC is an amazing charity within Whatcom County and I am proud to be apart of it.
