Giang Ha, Accountant, Haskell Corporation
Giang Ha joined Blue Skies for Children's board in Summer 2011. He is 27 years old and born and raised in Olympia, WA. He moved to Bellingham in 2002 to attend WWU. Giang graduated in 2006 with an accounting degree and feels fortunate to have found a great job in Bellingham working for Haskell Corporation.
We asked Giang what motivated him to join Blue Skies’ board, his answer “The children! I can relate to them on a personal level in that I was raised in a low income household and when I was growing up did not get to experience many of the same enjoyments in life as other kids did. When I heard about BSFC, I was more than motivated in wanting to make a difference in the lives of children who do not have much. BSFC is a great organization that offers many great programs to support children who are homeless, in foster care, and/or living in low income households.”
As a board member, it is Giang’s goal to raise awareness of Blue Skies within the community and to increase the number of children the organization supports. In order for Blue Skies to be able to support more children, the non-profit needs more volunteers as well as more board members to make it possible. Giang says “….educating the public and getting people involved with BSFC is one of the main criteria in achieving my goal.”
Giang is motivated daily by family and friends, but the one person that motivates him above all others is his father. Giang says “He’s the hardest working man I know. He works hard to provide for his family, to put food on the table, and to keep everyone healthy and well. I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done and given me.”
Blue Skies is Giang’s first experience and involvement in the non-profit world. He has been working for Haskell Corporation for the past 5 years as an accountant and assistant controller under the direction of the CFO/Controller. Giang would describe himself as honest, hard-working and loyal.
Outside of work, Giang enjoys being active and says “….Bellingham is a great city for me to do so. I love playing basketball, running, hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, fishing, etc.”
